MAÎTRE D’

The first impression is always the most important. Therefore, this is one of the most integral roles at BLACKS, where we pride ourselves on a warm and friendly welcome to members. We are currently on the lookout for an experienced and inspirational Maitre D’ with rock-solid membership club credentials and a passion for experiential service. They will work alongside the Managers and help lead the Front of House team as well as really getting to know members, always curious enough to ask more of themselves and facilitate most of their every need.

The ideal candidate will be member focused with a big personality, charm and etiquette, and who has Front of House experience as well as marketing member events and promotions. At base level, they oversee the guest journey from pre-arrival to post-visit, upholding the highest standards in food service, ensuring our member and guest experience is always in line with our wonderfully bohemian ethos. We are a small team in a unique environment that work together as a family and ultimately build rapport with everyone, really getting to know members from birthdays to special occasions and understanding their needs, ensuring people come back time and again.

About the Role:

  • Welcome members on a personal level and daily basis and successfully grow repeat business, ensuring sign in and making their guests feel at home on entry, ultimately creating a personable and brilliant experience for members across all areas of the Club
  • Manage the ground floor reception, restaurant and service, leading and inspiring colleagues to deliver a consistently warm and engaging FOH service
  • Be sharp on details relating to mood, atmosphere, lighting, cleanliness and general aesthetics
  • Help organise and support on admin for events and private dining, communicating with the team according to run sheets, executing and delivering seamless events alongside Event Manager liaising with guests and facilitating requirements
  • Help with all pre-opening and/or closing operational tasks checklists, procedures, and processes
  • Support the Director on marketing across events, member activities, partnerships and locality
  • Work with kitchen and team to promote F&B offering and recommendations to members

About You:

  • Happy, engaging and fun with a natural ability to strike up conversation with people
  • Have previous experience as a Maître D’ or Head Host within a private members’ club or a busy, high profile, quality restaurant
  • Curious by nature with a genuine passion for creating an excellent guest experience and providing impeccable service
  • The ability to multi-task and effectively react to changing member needs
  • Are natural, courteous and a confident communicator face to face, on the telephone and on email
  • A well-presented team player with personality and flair
  • Have previous experience of Open Table, or similar booking system
  • Organised, reliable and always on time
  • Energetic, motivated, assertive and always wants to be on the floor
  • Calm and composed working in high energy, time-tight events and night-life environments
  • Supportive about forward-thinking work cultures, championing diversity and inclusivity
  • Trustworthy and discreet; able to demonstrate understanding of members’ confidentiality
  • Wants to make a difference in the Club, improving service and the environment to help build its overall success
  • Must be available and willing to work late nights, weekends and holiday, and willing to do long shifts and make a difference in shaping the Front of House team
  • Please note that BLACKS is a four storey Georgian townhouse with lots of stairs and furniture that often needs moving
